Matilde Perrino
Visiting Student 2025
About me:
I am a visiting PhD student from the University of Trento (Italy), under the supervision of Giorgio Vallortigara. I have a background in philosophy and neuroscience, which has shaped my interest in the intersection between theoretical and experimental approaches to understanding animal brains and behavior. For my PhD project, I investigate how zebrafish assess group size and how motion perception contributes to this ability. During my stay in Lausanne, supported by an EMBO Scientific Exchange Grant, I am focusing on the neural mechanisms underlying these behaviors using calcium imaging in juvenile zebrafish. I enjoy discussing theories and ideas in neuroscience, as well as engaging in community and educational hands-on activities. This led me to participate in many fun summer schools and then organize workshops with the Nencki Open Lab during the last years.
