Karine Baumer

Laboratory Technician

About me:

I hold a degree in medical laboratory sciences. My career has been shaped by a dedication to cancer research. I started with C. elegans in Professor Gönczy’s group before expanding to murine models in Experimental Pathology, focusing on Ewing sarcoma and glioblastomas. Seeking new perspectives, I joined Philip Morris International’s R&D team as an Associate Scientist, gaining experience in quality control, process validation and lab management. Returning to forensic medicine, I contributed to develop a rapid test to detect fetal DNA circulating in maternal blood, to assist victims of sexual assault in determining whether the child they carried was conceived by their partner or their aggressor. In March 2024, I joined Johannes Larsch’s group to explore research on zebrafish, embracing yet another fascinating chapter in my scientific journey.
